Family Home Decor and DIY for a Beautiful Creative Family Home

Welcome to Pages of Emma… Family home decor and DIY ideas for for families wanting to create timeless and creative spaces in their home for every family member to enjoy.

I’m Emma, a mum of 4 young children just trying to create our family home where we can make memories together and sharing my family home decor ideas as I go along. I DIY, upcycle and decorate my way room by room, while occasionally getting a little sidetracked by project ideas that inspire me half way through something else. My interiors style has been described as pretty modern vintage style country with a splash of fun and creativity, which is a bit of a mouthful but feels pretty accurate.

I’m always juggling the children while working on my DIY projects so don’t expect to see miraculous makeovers in a day here, you can rest assured that what I work on and share is not only attainable and replicable but actually achievable too!

I focus on sharing ideas that are affordable and realistic. Although affordability can range and vary from one person to the next, what remains consistent is that affordability should mean non-wasteful, timeless, and not driven by fads and temporary trends. So that when you do decorate a room you’re not inclined to want to redo it again a few months later.

Partly fuelled by coffee, partly fuelled by sleep deprivation, and partly by big hearty meals that I spend my day looking forward to, I am a 30 something mum of 4 tinies in a middle management corporate job. I LOVE what I do for a living, but I also work to live, I don’t live to work, and this little space on the world wide web is my creative space to explore a type of work that brings me joy and that maybe one day can support me and my family.

A Scottish girl that has found herself living in the North West of England in the UK, I am currently renovating our first family home with the massive support and help of my beloved husband and his unwavering patience. I believe that we all have the ability to be creative at home, we just need to feel empowered to explore those ideas and learn the skills, so we do all of our projects by ourselves between long working days, and juggling the four children.

Family Home Decor – Decorating Ideas, Themes & Projects

Because we have bought a doer-upper we spend a lot of our time at home decorating and doing DIY. At first, this felt a little intimidating but now I have a skill set that 3 years ago I could only have dreamed of. I love to share the projects we have undertaken to show you that you can do it too, and empower you to create a beautiful home to enjoy. Everything we do is affordable and manageable for normal people and I hope you get lots of ideas from us. On this blog and my social channels I share decorating ideas, themes and styles for either entire rooms or parts of rooms, always focussing on timeless design that won’t age as well as ensuring that spaces are enjoyed as much by the children who live in the home as well as the parents.

Family Home Decor – DIY Ideas that are Fun and Affordable

I believe that we all have the ability to try different DIY projects in our house and that really, what’s the worst that can happen by just giving it a go?! I had zero DIY skills before we moved to this family home, but I have learned on the job and now feel much more confident. Check out my DIY projects, advice and ideas for inspiration on what DIY you can try in your family home too.

Family Home Decor – Upcycling furniture and accessories

One of the most affordable ways to update your home without spending a fortune, and to gain some DIY skills without risking putting holes in your walls, is to try upcycling furniture. I absolutely love upcycling pieces to fit our home decor and room designs to save on budget and also reduce waste and risk of sending things to landfill. I also believe that by upcycling older items we find on places like Facebook Marketplace we end up with much better quality built to last furniture that will stand the test of time much more than most modern flat pack cheap furniture which can be false economy a lot of the time. I have upcycled a mixture of vintage finds and ikea furniture to add character, interest and longevity to furniture in our home. Check out some of my upcycling projects here.

Family Home Decor – Styling your family home

Do you ever get the feeling that you want to completely redecorate a room but you don’t have the time or budget to do so? Yeh, me too, we all get that way. Our homes are so well used that spaces can become tired, or as we evolve as families our needs from spaces can change. Home styling can be a simple and temporary solution to reviving spaces without needing to completely redecorate which is more realistic and more affordable for most people. Furthermore, I share ideas on how to pull rooms together after redecorating to make them feel complete, furnished and perfect. Check out some of my home styling content featuring beautiful and affordable home decor items and ideas you can replicate in your family home too.
