Bathroom tiles: Why these are the most amazing ones ever

Bathroom tiles: Why these are the most amazing ones ever

I have chosen the most amazing bathroom tiles EVER for the renovation of our family bathroom. Our bathroom renovation has been one long slow project partly due to COVID restricting our access to a plasterer for a while and partly due to money just being generally tight as it always is. One of the many reasons we needed to renovate the bathroom was the really poor quality tiling job that had been done by the previous owners and therefore choosing the right tile was really important to us. I’m a fan of a really simple metro tile for the bathroom. They are so versatile and easy to use and can easily be jazzed up by laying them vertically or by using contrasting grout, just like you can see in our DIY tiling job in the kitchen upcycle, here.

White metros are a classic and versatile tile

However, for our bathroom I wanted a bathroom tiling solution that was a bit more grown up and sophisticated. We are super lucky to have a so-called ‘executive’ house (although I so hate the term). It is a 5 bed detached house in a leafy suburb right on the key commuter links in the north of the UK and so the potential buyers we may have one day would definitely be seeking a high quality bathroom and not a make do and mend. And when you are strapped for cash (thanks mortgage!) that is really hard to do, hence why we do as much work as we can by ourselves.

So I reached out to my friend Jess of Happy Beams Interiors for help finding an alternative to a bog-standard white metro. I wanted a bathroom tile that evoked the feeling and style of Emily Jane Lathan‘s warm neutral haven but that was more “grown-up” than the white metro tiles we used in our kitchen an en suite. Also, it’s nice to have some variety and use different tiles throughout the house. Jess came back with the BEST bathroom tile EVER and I was absolutely delighted with her choice. Here’s why the tiles she picked are the best bathroom tiles EVER.

Variety of Patterns

Variety is the spice of life and the first thing I love about these bathroom tiles is the variety of ways in which you can lay them creating completely different looks with each design, but without the hassle of buying lots of different patterns. One tile with multiple end designs. Plus you can lay them both horizontally AND vertically giving you lots of options to add interest and dimension to your walls.

Easy to Use

These bathroom tiles are very similar to a standard metro measuring 30cm x 10cm which makes them easy to measure, layout and apply. Plus they are smooth enough to apply grout easily rather than having a bevelled edge which can make grouting a little harder, but also have enough surface texture to add interest and a more rustic finish than a gloss metro.

An Injection of Warmth

Who says tiles need to feel and be cold? These bathroom tiles are an injection of warmth in a room that is traditionally decorated in cool tones. I love that these amazing bathroom tiles break the typical mould of bathroom decor.

Hoxton Warm Decor

The tiles are the stunning Hoxton Warm Decor from Porcelain Superstore. I paired a feature wall of these tiles with the Porcelain Superstore Dorset Ivory on the side walls which both draws attention to the beautiful feature of the Hoxton while also preventing overpowering of the pattern in this small bathroom. I am excited to share with you the progress of the bathroom renovation as it happens.
