Rose Skincare: 5 reasons why you should be using it

I’m a fan of all kinds of skincare products but the one range that has stood the test of time and continues to remain a part of my routine is skincare infused with rose. I can completely understand why some may never have tried rose skincare, or may not want to try it, because of its scent: rose is not necessarily a fragrance associated with women of my age group. But I also truly believe that the opinion that rose is old fashioned is an outdated one and the reason rose remains a common skincare ingredient is because it actually works. Read on for 5 reasons why you should be using rose skincare.

Rose skincare as an Antioxidant

What does antioxidant even mean? An antioxidant is a substance that prevents or slows down damage to cells caused by our body’s by-products and by environmental influences. Rose, you will be delighted to know, is a natural antioxidant and therefore the ideal skincare ingredient for preventing wrinkles, reducing fine lines, and for combatting the effects of external environmental forces such as pollution.

Rose is naturally Antibacterial

Bacteria in the skin causes acne and there are thousands of products out there designed to target this, but how many of them contain natural ingredients like rose? There are hundreds of academic scientific studies proving the antibacterial effects of rose so don’t just take my word for it. Anybody who suffers from acne or spots should look to use a skincare range with rose as a key ingredient. Cleansing your skin with a good quality rose based cleanser like this one is the first step to clearing your skin up.

Anti-inflammatory benefits of Rose skincare

Connected to the antibacterial effect of rose is its anti-inflammatory benefits which help to reduce the redness and inflammation you see with acne. However, this anti-inflammatory benefit also extends to people who suffer from rosacea, eczema or other similar skin conditions that cause redness of the skin. Rose is naturally rich in vitamin C and phenolics (phenol was thought to be the first surgical antiseptic ever used). I swear by this balm whenever my skin needs some TLC.

Rose skincare’s Anti-dryness properties

Rose is moisturising which is a very important and unique element for something that also targets blemishes and inflammation as so many products for problem skin can cause dryness and tightness. Rose is the perfect conditioning treatment for all skin types thanks to this property. This rose-based moisturiser comes highly recommended for replenishing skins moisture.

Rose is a natural Astringent

Astringents in skincare are essentially toners, but also include the extra ability to remove excess oils from the skin and not just impurities. Astringent toners are therefore excellent for that super fresh feeling and oily skin types. However many contain high levels of alcohol. Using a rose-based toner is a natural way of using an astringent on your skin without the irritation and dryness than can occur with an alcohol-based toner and will result in your pores looking smaller and skin more balanced. This rose toner is one of my favourites and I use it most days, click here to see.
